The Power We Hold: “Social Media”!

“Let us not add fuel to the fire! I grieve for those in Iran, for those in Palestine, for those in Syria, for those in Yemen, for the oppressed people in Africa, and for those in Israel as well… Let no people cry, let no people suffer, let no people be exploited!”

Hello, my dear fellow human beings,

I wrote the sentences above right at the beginning so that those who may not have the patience to read this text until the end will still understand its main idea and not fall into the trap of their own prejudices.

Beautiful thoughts, pure thoughts…

As individuals who have reached a certain age, who are now in what is almost the final quarter of our journey in this world—perhaps even living a little longer into overtime—I believe that even if we leave nothing behind, we at least have a responsibility to spread a pleasant echo, a gentle trace.

My aim, in this space where I write voluntarily, is to share my life experiences with messages of love and peace, and to bring even a small sense of comfort to hearts.

Given this, I ask you: Can we really use the power placed in our hands—this thing called “social media”—however we please? I will leave the answer to you and continue.

Last week, despite posting on my Facebook page, “I do not want angry, hateful, divisive content or especially political content on my page, and please do not send me biased disaster scenarios, often created with artificial intelligence, via private messages,” I continued to receive such videos in my private messages.(And sending a private message is, in essence, entering someone’s personal space.)

Dear “brother” who spreads hate on social media, what is your issue with the Jewish people?

What have they done to you? About six hundred years ago, for various reasons, some Jews came to Turkish lands, settled, and contributed to society in every field. They became integrated with Turkish customs, traditions, and language, becoming just one of many peoples that make up this rich mosaic.

(The lands of Turkey are a colorful mosaic of many cultures.)This Jewish community worked, made efforts, paid taxes, and contributed both to society and to the state.

Today, while some still live under the Turkish flag, others have migrated to different parts of the world, and some to the land called Israel.

In other words, many Jews living in Turkey still have relatives and family connections in Israel. And despite knowing this, you continue to share and send, both publicly and privately, AI-generated videos and images depicting damage in Tel Aviv.

This is not politics. Politics is something entirely different. This is spreading hatred, resentment, discord, and division among people—from behind a screen, sometimes not even under your real name, but through anonymous or fake accounts.

If you truly want to do something, go—no matter which people are in need—go to where help is needed, step into the field, and help in whatever way you can. Engaging in social media theatrics is very easy—in fact, the easiest thing to do…

Please, my brother, please don’t.

When I analyze, from a psychological perspective, those who make such posts, I see individuals who have experienced traumatic events in their lives and have been unable to find meaning. Because they lack meaning, they cling fanatically to a cause in order to feel a sense of identity—just like fanatical sports supporters.Just as, after matches, stones sometimes fly through the air and people tragically lose their lives because individuals forget that it is only a sport and turn stadiums into battlefields, these hate-filled social media posts also come from a lack of empathy—failing to recognize that there is real suffering and real harm in the world.

Write this somewhere in your mind: there are many Jews who support Palestine, and many Jews who oppose the Israeli government—some are for it, some against it. There are many Americans who support Trump and many who oppose him.

There are many Iranians who support Israel and even organize marches of gratitude toward Israel across the world. All of this is relative, my brother—what is not relative is being on the side of peace and refusing to add fuel to the fire.

Use your common sense. Use the power placed in your hands—this thing called social media—for goodness and beauty. What human beings truly are becomes evident when they are given power…

Love does not discriminate by language, religion, or nationality. With the sincere hope that your hearts are filled with love and that it spreads across the world, and that peace comes as soon as possible…

That is all for today.
